Is the key absent, or is the Chrysler refusing it?
If a Chrysler fob is in your hand but does not unlock the doors, do not assume it has lost its starting authorization. Button damage, a weak coin cell or a vehicle battery problem may explain the symptom. A FOBIK that is present but will not operate its ignition may point to a key, ignition-module or vehicle-side issue that needs diagnosis. If you can still start the car with any key, you need an additional key or a remote repair, not an all-keys-lost recovery. Tell me what you physically have, whether another key works and what happens at the ignition or start button. These distinctions prevent replacing a key when the real fault is elsewhere.
The 200, 300, Town & Country and Pacifica differ
Chrysler's model names span keyed ignitions, inserted electronic FOBIK-style keys and equipped passive-entry systems. A Town & Country using an inserted fob is not automatically comparable to a Pacifica with a start button; a Chrysler 200 or 300 can vary by generation and options as well. Where Sentry Key electronic authorization is required, a metal blade alone cannot necessarily start the vehicle. I ask for year, model, trim, VIN and a description or photo of the ignition area. A surviving old fob shell or label is useful evidence, but its appearance and button count do not establish the right electronic part for a particular Chrysler.
A FOBIK is not merely a door remote
On certain Chryslers, an electronic fob is inserted into the ignition arrangement, while its buttons separately operate remote keyless entry. It is possible to confuse these two jobs when a replacement looks right but only the doors respond. A compatible FOBIK must suit the actual ignition and security equipment; not every used or look-alike electronic key is eligible for reuse. With no working original, I check suitable parts and authorized service availability rather than propose button pairing as a solution to a missing starting key. On a keyed vehicle, mechanical cutting and any required starting authorization are also distinct from remote button function.
Mechanical entry and Keyless Enter-N-Go
If the Chrysler is locked, physical access may be necessary before the car and paperwork can be checked. An appropriate mechanical key or emergency insert addresses an equipped door lock. On a passive-entry, push-button Chrysler, that insert does not replace the electronic proximity credential needed for starting. On another generation, a correctly cut blade may turn a conventional ignition, but whether the vehicle also requires an authorized chip depends on its system. I explain entry, blade, electronic starting and remote-button work separately, so opening the door is not mistaken for getting the vehicle back on the road.
No working original means a different appointment
Adding a spare while a registered Chrysler key remains provides a working reference and a different service path. When every starting key is gone, the correct part and security requirements have to be identified without that reference. Support can depend on the model year, ignition arrangement and access to authorized registration; parts or additional arrangements may be necessary before mobile work is possible. I check these limits before agreeing to dispatch. There is no single procedure for every 200, 300 or Pacifica, and no promise that any particular vehicle can be finished at the curb. I also cannot assume a dealership visit is necessary for every generation.
What to send before the mobile visit
Provide the Chrysler's year, model, VIN and parked location. Say whether it has a turn-key ignition, an inserted fob ignition or a start button, and whether the vehicle is locked or its battery appears weak. Send a photo of a remaining damaged case, readable identifier or old key image if one exists; if not, the actual vehicle still must be checked. Mention any replaced ignition or locks. Registration or title and matching photo ID are required to verify authorization before access or key work. If those documents are inside the car, let me know during the call so verification can be discussed before an appointment is confirmed.
Check the right functions after Chrysler service
On a supported vehicle I check applicable blade operation in the installed lock and whether the new key actually starts the car. An inserted electronic key must work in its intended ignition arrangement; an equipped proximity key needs its expected start recognition checked. Lock and unlock buttons are tested independently, with cargo, panic or other controls assessed only where the Chrysler has those features. A remote that opens the doors but leaves the vehicle unable to start is not a finished all-keys-lost job. If the key is recognized yet the engine still will not start, a separate vehicle problem may need diagnosis.
Cost and the right Chrysler question
The model-specific part, access, blade work and any electronic authorization affect the quote. Service call starts at $49. Final pricing depends on the type of service, lock, vehicle, hardware, complexity of the job, and any required parts. I discuss scope and availability before scheduling owner-operated mobile service in Denver Metro; there is no universal Chrysler price or completion time. If a working key turns up, the Chrysler car-key replacement guide covers spare-key choices. When no starting key remains, call with the vehicle information and proof of ownership for an AKL assessment rather than purchasing a similar-looking fob first.
