Make sure the Cadillac key is absent, not just undetected
If you still possess the fob, a 'key not detected' warning does not by itself establish an all-keys-lost case. A depleted fob battery, vehicle battery issue, damaged remote or car-side fault might explain the symptom. If the car still starts but its buttons fail, remote-entry service is a different request. If every key that could start it is physically missing, tell me when you last had one and whether another is available. I ask what the dash shows, whether you can enter the vehicle and whether it has power before discussing an AKL replacement rather than ordering an expensive fob for an undiagnosed fault.
Escalade, CTS and XT vehicles cover several generations
An older CTS with a conventional ignition and a newer Escalade with passive entry may need very different parts and authorization. XT-family vehicles also vary by year and equipment. Earlier Cadillac theft-deterrent arrangements, later coded keys and newer Keyless Open/Start systems should not be flattened into a single 'Cadillac smart key.' Even two fobs with identical button pictures can differ internally. I use the VIN, year, model, trim and actual start arrangement to investigate the part and electronic requirements. A photo or identifier from an old casing is useful supporting evidence, not proof that another remote will work.
The emergency insert solves only one problem
A locked Cadillac may need authorized physical access before the vehicle and documents can be checked. On an equipped proximity fob, its mechanical insert is intended for the relevant door lock; it does not independently supply the electronic identity required for push-button starting. On a keyed-ignition Cadillac, the mechanical blade and any applicable electronic authorization should likewise be considered separately. Remote locking and trunk or liftgate release add further functions. I outline what needs to work for that specific vehicle so a door that opens is never presented as a working driving key.
When authorized service needs extra arrangements
With a functioning key, a Cadillac owner may be asking for an additional registered fob. With none remaining, there is no starting credential available to compare and the security access requirements may differ. Some Cadillac generations can have additional authentication, parts or authorized-service requirements that must be checked before a mobile visit. I will not claim universal curbside support or describe sensitive security procedures. If the specific system or required part cannot be supported at the location, I explain that limitation before any visit is agreed to, rather than suggesting a certain same-day result.
A new smart fob does not automatically retire an old one
A misplaced fob and a stolen fob create different concerns. If a lost Cadillac key might be held by someone else, bring that up before service. Whether previously registered electronic credentials can be managed depends on the vehicle and available authorized options; a newly functioning fob does not prove the missing one was disabled. Mechanical inserts and unchanged door cylinders are an additional, separate access issue. I discuss the distinction with the verified owner and avoid claiming an electronic replacement alone settles every security question.
What to provide before I assess availability
Have the Cadillac's model, year, VIN, location and ignition or start-button type ready. Tell me whether the vehicle is locked or accessible, whether its battery appears healthy and whether any fob or blade survives, even damaged. A clear image of an old remote label or part number may help identify a candidate; feature buttons still need to match the car's actual equipment. Mention prior lock replacement or aftermarket electronics. Registration or title and matching photo ID are required before key or vehicle-access work. If the documents are inside the locked Cadillac, say so at the outset so authorization can be discussed before arranging dispatch.
Checking the restored functions on the car
For a supported recovery I verify applicable mechanical entry with the new blade, starting recognition and, where equipped, proximity access or push-button behavior. Remote lock and unlock are checked separately. Trunk, liftgate, panic or remote-start controls are checked only if that Cadillac and the compatible fob actually have them. Digital-key or key-card features on some vehicles are separate systems and should not be assumed part of a physical-fob replacement. If the fob is recognized but the vehicle still will not start, another vehicle problem may require diagnosis; the cause should not automatically be assigned to the new key.
Scope and cost for a missing last Cadillac key
Access, the correct part, blade work, security authorization and any additional arrangements affect a quote. Service call starts at $49. Final pricing depends on the type of service, lock, vehicle, hardware, complexity of the job, and any required parts. I confirm service availability for the exact Cadillac before arranging owner-operated mobile work in Denver Metro, with no fixed time or universal final price. The Cadillac car-key replacement guide covers general replacement and spare-fob questions if a working key remains. For zero working keys, call with the vehicle details and ownership documents so the all-keys-lost situation can be assessed specifically.
