Level Bolt versus the complete Level locks
Level Bolt is a retrofit: it replaces the bolt mechanism inside the door while you keep your existing interior and exterior deadbolt hardware and your physical keys. The complete Level locks, such as the Level Lock+ family, replace more of the deadbolt assembly and include their own exterior hardware. Features differ between them, so the product name on the box decides what we can and cannot set up.
What a hidden lock needs from the door
Because the motor sits in the edge bore, it has very little room to overcome friction. The bolt needs to enter the strike without touching the edges, and the strike pocket needs enough depth for full extension. I check the backset, the bore and edge prep, and how square the door is in the frame. On older Denver homes where doors have shifted, I often adjust or replace the strike before the Level goes in, instead of hoping the motor can push through it.
Keeping your existing hardware with Level Bolt
With Level Bolt, your existing deadbolt's exterior cylinder and interior thumbturn are reused, connected through the new bolt using the parts and adapters Level provides. Not every deadbolt pairs cleanly, so I confirm the existing hardware brand and tailpiece before disassembly. If your current hardware is worn or loose, reusing it simply moves an old problem into a new lock, and I will say so.
Key cards, fobs and phone access
Level Bolt does not support Level key cards or fobs — access comes from the app and your existing keys. Other Level models support touch or card access depending on the product. Apple home keys, which let a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch unlock the door from Apple Wallet, are supported only on specific compatible Level models. I check your exact model rather than assuming a feature seen in an advertisement applies to yours.
Remote access and Matter
Level locks talk to your phone over Bluetooth nearby. Remote control from away depends on the generation: some setups use a Level bridge, some rely on a compatible smart-home hub. Matter over Thread is available only on products built for it, such as the Matter version of Level Lock+, and it needs a compatible Thread border router in the home. I confirm what your system can support before you rely on remote unlocking.
Diagnosing a Level that misbehaves
When a Level lock stops responding or throws partially, the cause is usually one of three things: mechanical binding at the strike, a battery that is low for the motor's demand, or a connection issue with the phone or hub. I check them in that order. Replacing a lock because an app will not connect is rarely the right answer.
Managing who can get in
Level access is shared through the app, including time-limited access for guests. With Level Bolt, your physical keys also remain valid, so if keys have gone missing over the years, rekeying the existing cylinder during the visit is worth considering.
Pricing
Service call starts at $49. Final pricing depends on the type of service, lock, vehicle, hardware, complexity of the job, and any required parts.
