Confirm the exact eufy model first
eufy sells several smart locks with different features, and a page about one should not be read as a promise about another. What follows is about the C220 specifically. Features like Matter support, Apple home keys or a rechargeable battery pack exist on some eufy products and not others, so if your box says something other than C220, I check that model's own specifications before planning the install.
What the C220 brings to the door
On the outside you get a fingerprint sensor, a keypad and a keyed cylinder; on the inside, the motor and battery compartment. Wi-Fi is built in and pairs with the eufy Security app for remote locking, access history and code management. The C220 runs on eight AA batteries. eufy publishes estimated battery life, but real runtime depends on how often the door is used, the signal strength and the cold, so I do not quote a number as a promise.
The rekeying limitation
eufy states that the C220's mechanical cylinder cannot be rekeyed. Its keys can be copied, but the cylinder cannot be changed to match your existing house key. If one key for every door matters to you, the practical choices are a different smart lock whose cylinder can be rekeyed or keyed alike, or accepting a separate key for this door. I would rather have that conversation before installation than disappoint you afterward.
Enrolling fingerprints for real life
The sensor is only as good as the enrollment. I have each person register a finger with several placements — tip, flat, slightly rotated — and add a second finger as a backup. Children's fingerprints, fingers with calluses and hands that are cold after shoveling snow can all read inconsistently. Keypad codes remain the dependable alternative for anyone the sensor struggles with.
If the batteries die
The C220 has a USB-C port on the outside for emergency power. It is there to wake the lock for long enough to unlock with a fingerprint or code; it does not recharge the AA batteries, which still need replacing. The physical key is the other fallback. I suggest keeping a key somewhere accessible from outside, since a key locked inside the house is no backup at all.
Fitting the deadbolt and strike
The C220 replaces your whole deadbolt. I check the bore, backset and door thickness against eufy's requirements, then make sure the bolt slides into the strike without contact. A bolt that scrapes costs battery life and causes failed lock attempts. On doors where weatherstripping pushes the door away from the stop, I adjust the strike so the motor does not have to pull the door closed.
Wi-Fi problems versus lock problems
If the fingerprint reader and keypad work but the eufy Security app shows the lock offline, the problem is the Wi-Fi link — often a weak 2.4 GHz signal at the front door. If the app responds but the bolt stalls, look at the strike and the batteries. Treating the two separately saves time and replacement parts.
Pricing
Service call starts at $49. Final pricing depends on the type of service, lock, vehicle, hardware, complexity of the job, and any required parts.
