C-Class generations and key systems
The W202, W203, W204, W205, and W206 span different C-Class eras, but a chassis code alone does not identify every key feature. Production year, market, trim, and original equipment matter. Some C-Class vehicles use a conventional key or remote, others a SmartKey, and some variants support proximity entry or push-button start. I identify the actual system before discussing a replacement.
Remote, blade, and vehicle access
A remote that will not unlock the door may have a weak fob battery, but that does not by itself establish a fault in the vehicle's electronic ignition. A weak vehicle 12V battery, damaged key, door-lock issue, or another electronic fault can cause similar complaints. A mechanical emergency blade may offer door access when fitted; its presence and function depend on the key and vehicle. A cut blade alone may not authorize starting.
Adding a spare C-Class key
If a working key remains, tell me the model year and whether the vehicle starts and the remote works. A spare-key assessment is different from an all-keys-lost request. Key and remote compatibility, parts availability, and whether the original system is supported must be confirmed before I can quote the work.
When all C-Class keys are lost
With no working key, the available replacement path depends on the C-Class generation and security system. Some vehicles may be supported by mobile service; others need specialized dealer or OEM procedures, parts, or a different service provider. I confirm vehicle details and proof of ownership before discussing feasibility, location, timing, and a quote for supported work.
Information to have ready
Please provide the year, C-Class variant, current key type, whether any working key remains, and what happens when you try to unlock or start the vehicle. Registration or title and matching photo ID are needed to verify ownership for key work. These details help distinguish a spare request from a lost-key or diagnostic problem.
Emergency lockout
Locked out of your C-Class? I assess the vehicle and door condition before selecting an entry approach. A non-destructive method is preferred where possible, but the method and timing depend on the actual vehicle and lock condition. I verify authorization before opening a vehicle.
Ignition issues
A key or start failure does not identify a single cause. Depending on the generation and system, the key, fob battery, vehicle 12V supply, steering-lock system, or other components may need assessment. I discuss what I can evaluate for the specific C-Class; specialized electronic repair or a dealer/OEM path may be required.
